The Hungarian Cultural Institute of Sofia has organised 10-days' worth of cultural activities in Bulgaria's Black Sea town of Sozopol under the devise Hungarian Wave, to take place from July 30 to August 10 2008.
Art exhibitions, jazz and Hungarian folk music concerts and book presentations will give visitors the opportunity to understand a bit more of the culture of the Magyar people.
Abstract artist Victor Vasarely's works will be the focus of the exhibitions. In the past year, his pieces have been shown at the National Art Gallery in Sofia, and in Skopje, Macedonia, Pristina, Kosovo, and Tirana, Albania. Works by contemporary Bulgarian artists form another element, with a show entitled Colour and Light, along with yet another exhibition by the Sensaria Group, comprised of young Hungarian artists.
The exhibitions open at the Sozopol Art Gallery on July 30 at 7.30pm.
In the Otets Paisii Chitalishte (community centre), Mirror Images, a cycle of photographs by László Lugo Lugosi and Balázs Nagy, will be displayed from July 30. The works show 30 places symbolic of the Carpathian Basin, based on drawings of Ludwig Rohbock. Zsolt Szabóky's photos of old Hungarian fortresses will also be shown.
