Politics

- The appointment of the new head of Customs Agency, Hristo Koulishev, would go into force on June 2 2008, Dnevnik daily said. Finance Minister Plamen Oresharski announced his appointment on May 30, after Assen Assenov resigned from the post. Koulishev has held top management positions in the customs administration since 1992 and was last the head of the Customs Agency's Sofia regional directorate.

- National Audit Office is the only body that can control the real income and the real expenses of the political parties. The only thing it does, however, is dressed-up reports, which it presents, but they do not include the real financial flows during elections, Monitor daily quoted Ventsislav Dimitrov as saying. Dimitrov is financial consultant of President Georgi Purvanov.

Society

- In the end of his mandate, the 'rocker-individualist' Sergei Stanishev was already a 'rafter-collectivist', Dnevnik said. In addition to being a member of the international rockers club Eurobiker, Prime Minister Stanishev became a patron of the rafting European cup starts near Simitli over the weekend.

- Sofia Administrative Court declared the increase in the vehicle tax, imposed by the municipal council, invalid but kept the property tax increase, Dnevnik said. Sofia mayor Boiko Borissov said that he would appeal the court's decision.

- Democrats for a Strong Bulgaria (DSB) announced new cases of controversial exchanges of Defence Ministry properties, Sega daily said. DSB MP Dimitar Kambourov said that in the spring of 2007, Varna regional administration exchanged 41 000 sq m in the seaside town of Byala for 30 apartments in the outskirts of Sofia.

Economy

- Bulgarian producers were dependant on the import of raw materials and, at the same time, counted on sales on the Bulgarian market where their main business partner was the state, World Bank report on Bulgaria for 2007 said, as quoted by Dnevnik. The report was based on a survey among 663 Bulgarian companies.
