The Project of the Year Award 2007 was awarded to the day-centre for the rehabilitation and re-socialisation of addicts. The centre is run by the organisation Fight against epidemic diseases and drug addiction in Sofia.
The award is a competition for the best social NGO Project of the Year 2007 and is an initiative of the Tulip Foundation.
Runners up for the award were the children police academy run by the Chance and Protection Association in Haskovo and the club for elderly intellectuals Silver Fall, by the Charity Association Hospice Milosardie in Sofia.
The awards were presented on March 31 at the National Film and Theatre Academy in Sofia.
Thirty-four projects had been nominated for this year's awards, from which a shortlist of 10 projects was drawn for the jury to select the final winners.
Jury members for the 2007 awards were Hewlett-Packard Bulgaria general manager Sasha Bezouhanova, Economedia chairman Ivo Prokopiev, film director Agelea Peeva, European Parliament information office in Bulgaria chief Toon Streppel, New Moments New Ideas managing director Kalina Zhouleva, Irish ambassador to Bulgaria Geoffrey Keating, actor Ben Cross, Bulgarian National Television board member Petya Tetevenska and Vagabond media's Antoni Georgiev.
Streppel has set up four information offices for the European Parliament. In retirement, it is culture and friends that still connect him to Bulgaria
Tulip Foundation Project of the Year 2008 awards go to projects that combat loneliness, social isolation and inequality.
Works will be reviewed by a group of judges, and winners will receive certificates and prizes.
