If you thought that Live Aid or Live 8, the 1985 and 2005 concerts in support of Africa, were huge and truly global, you may need to think again. This weekend's Live Earth concert, the music feast that aims to raise awareness of global warming and climate change, is expected to be watched by 2 billion people. Now, that's one third of the world's population. According to organisers Al Gore and Kevin Wall, the latter the man behind Live 8 two years ago, we need nothing short of a global effort like Live Earth if we are to have any chance of tackling climate change before climatic chaos becomes irreversible.
So how do you attract the attention of 2 billion people and make them not only enjoy the music but think about energy saving bulbs, leaving their cars at home, recycling and generally being more thoughtful about their personal environmental footprint? By staging a 24h, seven continent concert headlined by the world's top 100 musicians of course. The date of the show - this Saturday, 07.07.07.
In Bulgaria we will be able to watch a three-hour version of the concert on bTV the day following the concert, July 8. Having said that, everyone who would like to watch the entire 24h need only be present at www.LiveEarth.MSN.com to follow the sun as well as the various music acts. Enjoy the show and act!
