EUROPEAN CULTURES PRESENTED DURING EXHIBITION IN BULGARIA'S CAPITAL

Sofia Art Gallery hosted the opening of europe.art exhibition dedicated to Bulgaria's EU accession and the 50th anniversary of the Treaty of Rome.

Foreign Minister Ivailo Kalfin opened the exhibition on April 17. State Institute of Culture (SIC) and Sofia Art Gallery organised the event.

Europe.art includes works from the collections of Bulgarian Foreign Ministry and works provided by the embassies of several European countries in Sofia among which Belgium, Germany, Netherlands, Sweden and Italy.

Works featuring in the collections the embassies of neighbouring countries like Albania, Turkey, Serbia and Greece could be also seen in the hall of Sofia Art Gallery.

One of the aims of SIC is supporting the processes of integration and provoking willingness for dialogue between cultures through accomplishment of various regional cultural projects, SIC Director Lyudmila Dimitrova said.

Dimitrova said that European embassies were asked for help in order to reveal more about unique identity of the people working in those institutions.

Travel to Europe and Beyond is another art exhibition which takes place together with europe.art. The exhibition presents works from the archives of Sofia Art Gallery and looks back at the travel of Bulgarian painters round the world.

The collection covers the period from the beginning of 20th century until present time. The exhibition targets to show the achievements of Bulgarian painters compared to artists throughout the world.
