GOLD, SILVER AND CURRENCY SMUGGLING PREVENTED AT BULGARIA'S BORDER

Customs officers seized illegal import of more than 10kg of gold and silver jewelery, 261 watches and 17 000 undeclared euro at Kalotina border checkpoint, a Customs Agency press release said.

All objects were found during customs inspection of a car having Dutch registration.

The watches were kept in two cardboard boxes in the car's trunk. Some of the watches were of luxurious brands like Piere Carden and Rolex

Part of the jewelery was hidden under the front seat. The rest was wrapped in packages at the bottom of a suitcase.

A Dutch citizen of Turkish origin aged 37 was driving the car, the press release said.

Customs officers found 17 000 undeclared euro during the inspection.
