The Time of the Assassins of US journalist Claire Sterling, a book analysing the so-called `Bulgarian trace' in the assassination attempt against Pope Jean Paul II has been published in Bulgaria.

At the time of its issuing critics said the book was a political thriller of highest class, mediapool.bg reported.

When Italy decided to prosecute three Bulgarian citizens in relation with the assassination attempt, Sterling started gathering information on the involvement of Bulgarian secret services in the assault.

The communist regime in Bulgaria at the time announced that Sterling was an enemy, who was belittling the country and spreading manipulative materials.

For 23 years the majority of Bulgarians were unable to read Sterling's work. Finally, the book would be circulated in Bulgarian language, presenting more information on the `Bulgarian trace'.
