On June 1, the International Children's Day, a new social centre started functioning in Vratsa. The centre is equipped for work with disabled children.
A number of Bulgarian medical institutions offered free child examination and consultations on June 1. Among the hospitals that joined the initiative were the National Cardiological Hospital, pediatrics clinics, child psychology hospitals and the Child Allergology Cabinet of the Aleksandrovska University Hospital.
Deputy Labour and Social Policies Minister Ivanka Hristova opened a day-care centre for children with disabilities in Velingrad.
Various other initiatives and competitions occurred to mark the children's day in Bulgaria. The results of a road safety training were presented in Sofia Land theme park.
To commemorate the International Children's Day and UNICEF's 60th anniversary Bulgaria presented a new letter envelope issued in 6440 copies. Marina Petrova is the artist who created the envelope and a special post stamp for the occasion.

Bulgaria has requested assistance through the EU Civil Protection Mechanism. European Commissioner Kristalina Georgieva said that Bulgaria would most probably receive European aid but that it was also true that most of Europe was suffering from severe weather.
Education Minister decrees that from February 8 to 10 inclusive, all schools in Bulgaria will be closed.
