This year's karting season in Bulgaria started on March 27.
The Lauta track in Plovdiv hosted the first mini car tournament with an amateur competition entitled the Shumen Open.
According to new rules for the sport, there are two qualification series. The final results are based on the sum of the two series.
Another competition held on the Lauta track was a one-hour team driving event with an obligatory change of drivers. Each team was composed of journalists and visitors from the public, chosen by a draw.
The Lauta track will this year host more than 30 amateur events. In April, Plovdiv is to host the second round of the National Karting Championship, while May sees the Lauta Grand Prix. During that event, the Intercontinental C event champion, Ivailo Tsonev, will give a benefit performance.
Lauta Sports complex is to undergo major overhaul, with the construction of new sports facilities, a project estimated to cost at least nine million leva.
Works will be reviewed by a group of judges, and winners will receive certificates and prizes.
