BULGARIA'S DAFOVSKA LIKELY ENDS HER CAREER

Tue, Mar 21 2006 09:00 CET 580 Views

Olympic biathlon champion Ekaterina Dafovska said she decided to end her career after the conclusion of the season.

Biathlon competitor Radka Popova will leave the national team together with Dafovska, Focus Sport agency reported.

The national federation gave Dafovska some time to take a final decision but leaving the team is the more viable option, Dafovska said.

Bulgaria's biathlon competitors previously received the Nike Cup for the best team of January. For now Irina Nikoulchina and Pavlina Filipova decided to remain in the team.

The biathlon team is experiencing financial difficulties as funds from sponsors are insignificant. Last year a financial crisis occurred as well. On May 17 a meeting of the federation leadership will consider all problematic issues.
