BULGARIA PARTICIPATES IN WINTER OLYMPICS WITH 21 COMPETITORS

The Bulgarian Winter Olympics team for the games in Turin consists of 21 competitors. Olympic medallist in biathlon Ekaterina Dafovska will carry the Bulgarian flag during the opening ceremony.

Other Bulgarians in the biathlon team include Pavlina Filipova, Nina Kadeva, Irina Nikoulchina and Radka Popova. The only male biathlon competitor is Vitali Rudenchuk.

Sports experts said short track champion Evgeniya Radanova and figure skaters Albena Denkova and Maxim Stavinski have high chance for winning medals, mediapool.bg reported.

Another strong competitor is snowboarder Aleksandra Zhekova. Bulgaria will also have competitors in alpine skiing and bobsleigh.

International agencies reported the opening and closing ceremonies will cost the Turin organisers 29 million euro. More than two billion viewers worldwide will follow the events on television.
