¸Fifty-four films have been entered for the 12th Love Is Folly International Film Festival, and the 26th Golden Rose Bulgarian Film Festival, which will be held simultaneously in Varna for the first time from today till September 4. The Love Is Folly Festival will feature the latest Bulgarian feature films including A Trip to Jerusalem, One Calorie of Tenderness, Our Other Possible Life, Mila from Mars, Under the Same Sky and the latest works by Georgi Dyulgerov and Docho Bodjakov. Guests from abroad will include Hungarian actress Mari Torocsik, who won the Best Actress Award at last year's Love Is Folly Festival for her performance in A Long Weekend in Pest and Buda, film directors Victor Barrera (Spain) and Beppe Cino (Italy). Many guests are expected from Britain, Greece, Germany and Georgia in addition to the Bulgarian actors, critics and filmmakers.

An exhibition of pictures painted by children and young people with `intellectual disorders' called "Feel the colours of our world" is on show in the underpass in front of the Presidency. The underpass exhibition was organised with the co-operation of Sofia Municipality and according to the organisers it aims to highlight the issues concerning the needs of the people with intellectual disorders in Bulgaria. All the works displayed have been gathered from a few specialised day centres in Sofia for people with intellectual disorders, including the Children's Rehabilitation and Integration Centre Pokrov Bogorodichen Foundation and the centre for children with physical and mental disorders between the age of six and 18 years.

Interested in playing bridge? Expats and locals are welcome to join a Bridge Club that is associated with the Bulgarian Bridge Federation. It is a school for all, from 10 to 70 years old, who want to learn the art of bridge. There are groups for beginners, and advanced bridge players. The club is open from 4pm to midnight. Art Alert in September
Art Alley gallery is hosting an exhibition by Mila Popnedeleva. Lived Through Exotic based on the artists' impressions from Thailand. The Honorary Consul of Thailand in Bulgaria Viktor Melamed will open the exhibition on September 14.

µThe Photofiesta 2004 competition is on until September 6 at the southern Black Sea coast town of Lozenets. There are a total of about 300 participants, from Bulgaria and abroad, competing for awards including best colour picture taken during the fiesta, in two categories, digital and conventional. The event includes a picture competition for children younger than 14, and a body art show with demonstrations by world air brush champions Mircho Mirchev and Milena Koshoutanska.
This year's International Arts and Crafts Fair at the Etura ethnographic complex Gabrovo Region will feature hand-knitting, basket-weaving, plum-smoking, putty-making, dyeing with natural materials, and wool-spinning. A hand-knitting contest for the Silver Bell Award will be held during the Fair, which is scheduled to take place September 3-5. The Etura Arts and Crafts Fair was established in 1990, and became an international event in 2003. Craftspersons from Belgium, Croatia, Germany, Lithuania, Russia, Switzerland, and Bulgaria, among other countries, have been invited to the Fair. They will demonstrate their skills in various arts and crafts, including the arts of making copperware, cutlery, leather, and musical instruments.
The 12th International Ceramic Art Pleinair opened in Troyan on August 24 and artists from Japan, Macedonia, the Netherlands, Romania, Spain, Turkey, and Bulgaria will display their work by September 5.
The exhibition is staged at the new Artfestcentre at the local school of applied arts. The Artfestcentre was built under a Swiss government programme with financial support from the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, and inaugurated in spring 2004.
