The northern Black Sea resort of Albena is pulling out all the stops to lure tourists.
Nestled in a picturesque bay, the resort has a temperate climate and boasts a wide sandy beach. Albena devotees say that its summer season stretches from May to October.
There are a total of 14 900 beds in 43 hotels, ranging from two to four stars. Many are located right on the beach or on the hill nearby.
In recent years, 19 of the hotels have been reconstructed and totally renovated.
Five of the hotels have been offering an "all inclusive" formula since summer 2000, and a further two were due to be renovated in time to reopen for this season.
Top hotels in the resort offer the full range of facilities, including multi-channel television, shops, laundry and internet connections.
Other services include information about transport timetables, and information about and booking for excursions.
Albena has 32 hotel restaurants, four snack bars, three cafes and a cocktail bar on the beach, as well as several inns and taverns, with more than 12,000 seats among them.
The range of cuisine varies from traditional Bulgarian to Chinese and classical French.
A children's amusement park has a fun fair, kids' discos, mini trains, and inflatable trampoline and water karting, while leisure sports activities include water skiing, parasailing, yachting, surfing, jet skis, underwater fishing, tennis, mini golf, bowling, riding, beach volleyball, aerobics, and hang-gliding.
